Jack Elliot gets down-to-earth, romantic, vulnerable, and pure with minimal instrumentals in his folksy EP, The Next Chapter. With recordings done between Gothenburg and Malmo and produced by Petter Litvahll and Joakim Lindberg, respectively, the EP presents a blend of sincere storytelling and gentle melodies that leave us longing for wistful simplicity.
Opening with “It’s Not Easy Being Invisible,” Elliot leads us in his relaxing world with a guitar strumming into his dreamy atmosphere. He sings of feeling invisible and forgotten with ethereal softness and perceptive and melancholy lyrics.
“Heaven, Where Are You?” delves into grief and loss as Elliot uncovers his vulnerable condition. His vocals trail as though they are trying to reach heaven, where the dear deceased has gone.
“Foreign Skies” introduces a catchy and melodic vibe with uplifting guitar riffs and jittery percussion. Elliot’s storytelling tone engages us to help us revel in the joy and wonder of new experiences and connections.
In “Nature Is Calling,” Elliot explores the magic of nature with upbeat and dreamy acoustic arrangements. His lyrics paint vivid pictures of the natural world as he calls us to bask in the embrace of Mother Nature’s arms.
Closing The Next Chapter with “Cynical Ghost,” Elliot’s voice gets thick with loneliness and agony. He cynically envies couples and companionship and makes the singles and heartbroken among us relate hard.
If you love Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell, Jack Elliot’s music will be right up in your lane. His debut album is coming this fall, so stay tuned!
