The Opposite Way Around by Burton Badman: Album Review
The Opposite Way Around, Burton Badman’s debut album, is a reflection of the unique musical preferences and inspirations of each band member. It is nearly an hour’s worth of listen, promising to take listeners on a trip through various states of mind and sonic landscapes from the opening track.
The songs were composed by several artists at various periods and in various locations, yet they all come together to form a cohesive whole with a fresh, modern feel. That is why there is an individual signature behind each track. Take “Fields of Confusions” for example, the third track that takes you by surprise. It is an addictive song in which the flickering, distorted lead guitar delves far further below the surface than the smooth, attractive vocals that coil up the words like sugar-coated goodness. By the time “A Life Invisible” plays, you’ll be spun in a whole other direction. Taking eerie turns, “Pay Your Dues” made my skin crawl with its unpredictably haunting melodies and vocal hums. And finally, we have a banger “Hard Sense of War” that leaves listeners with a credit-roll screen-like tune.
Thanks to the band’s chemistry, and their classic tunes and contemporary compositions blending to stand the test of time, the album The Opposite Way Around came out to be a rich musical universe with shades of alternative rock, prog, dark, and dramatic, all fused together effortlessly!
