The Pond by Jetlagged: Review
The German acoustic band Jetlagged has been playing music for over 15 years, and they still have a strong connection and love for it. The indie group from Frankfurt has recently released a new single called “The Pond,” a gorgeous piece inspired by lonely excursions in wild and mystical woods.
The song does an incredible job of encapsulating, in the shape of sonic waves, the restorative power, the stillness, and the calming currents that are found in nature. A raw yet soothing background is created by expertly blending layers of acoustic guitar with piano melodies and soft synthesizer sounds. The honest vocals pierce through the hazy, dreamy atmosphere to send listeners to their chosen destination: the pond. You’ll be standing by the water, your reflection looking back at you, bathed in it, and consumed by it. The band examines the water as another intricate metaphor in all its uniqueness, fragility, and danger. Water can sustain or destroy. It carries both the yin and the yang in harmony. We also need to have the ability to balance and accept both the darkness and the light that exist within us.
Quotable lyrics:
“Breathe in
Breathe out
Drown in life
Drown in beauty
In a weightless world”
As melancholic and touching a song as you’ll hear anywhere, Jetlagged has made an indie folk masterpiece that you should definitely give a try.
