Martin Kuiper keeps the momentum rolling with “Time,” the second single from his upcoming rock album Prison Of Modesty, and it hits like a late-night thought spiral set to amplifiers. After the punchy arrival of “Ego,” this track leans into something more reflective, tackling that universal panic where dreams feel big and time feels painfully small. It’s rock with a pulse, but also with a point.
Kuiper’s story seeps naturally into the song. Written from memories of leaving home, starting university, and feeling the weight of irreversible choices at far too young an age, “Time” captures that sudden acceleration life throws at you when you’re barely ready. That anxious feeling of clocks judging you, deadlines breathing down your neck, and ambition running just ahead of your reach becomes the emotional engine of the track.
Sonically, “Time” wastes no seconds. It kicks off with thumping drums and gritty, grinding melodic guitars locked into a bustling rhythm, that moves in a forward motion that you can’t escape. Kuiper’s husky voice comes engagingly and light on its feet, giving the song an easy, almost addictive flow. As he refrains“Thinking about the time,” it echoes the mental loops of stress and self-doubt. The backing vocals glide in with a soulful lift, softening the edges and adding contrast to the song’s restless core.
Then comes the bridge, where a sharp, winding guitar solo churns and drifts, like thoughts spinning out just before clarity hits. It’s a classic rock moment, but it never feels indulgent—more like a release valve.
What makes “Time” especially satisfying is its context. Kuiper didn’t release his first song until 2023, at 49, which makes this reflection on lost time and delayed dreams feel earned rather than theoretical. “Time” drives forward, loud and alive. As a taste of Prison Of Modesty, it proves Kuiper is turning experience into fuel, and it sounds damn good doing it. Stay tuned for the big release.
