Time To Reflect by Sleeping Together: Review
The up-and-coming UK indie-pop band Sleeping Together is back with its third song, ‘Time To Reflect’. The complexities of love are examined in ‘Time To Reflect’, a song inspired by the experience of being a young adult in today’s culture. Although the Beatles sang that “love is all you need,” Sleeping Together takes a different view. Alexander Lloyd-Jones, the band’s frontman, tells us that “love is not what I need” before recounting a relationship from his past that almost caused him to give up his autonomy.
The song’s thoughtful lyrics examine the experiences that lead us to fall in love for the first time and the accompanying loss of self-reliance that accompanies it. Losing oneself in a relationship and the great value of hindsight are themes explored in ‘Time to Reflect’. If you can hang on to the essentials of who you are, falling in love doesn’t have to be as horrible as it’s made out to be. In ‘Time to Reflect’, Sleeping Together embraces an indie rock style.
It has elements of modern indie rock, but it also leans heavily on 90s-style pop-rock and pop-punk. There are hints of McFly and Scouting for Girls in Sleeping Together’s sound; yet, the band’s audacious “rock-ness” gives them a heavier, tougher, and modern edge. To hear ‘Sleeping Together’ is to hear a ball formed from the sounds of those legendary pop-rock bands, then slathered in a tune that is wholly their own. Be sure to try it out.
