Tissues by PIAO: EP Review
Creating her own musical lane while taking the pages out of the traditional pop musician’s book, PIAO, a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born in Shanghai who now resides in Los Angeles, has just released her much-anticipated EP, Tissues.
Although I’m a new listener, PIAO has absolutely lived up to the expectations of her most devoted followers with this album – an eclectic and kinetic five-song arsenal, led by the songs “SFL” and “Haunted By Potential,” and bolstered by a wide range of heartfelt performances. Each song has an undeniably introspective element, whether it be the lyrical weight of “Haunted by Potential” or the intrinsic bounce of “SFL” which stands for “Searching for Life” or the nearby spirit of the crisp-sounding track “Hannah Montana,” which both offer levity to practices of self-reflection. “SFL” now also has a music video.
Overall, the EP is a take on some of the most recognizable pop and pop-rock sounds just like Avril Lavigne from the 2000s, but with a contemporary spin to it. And not to mention, PIAO’s unique and impressive vocals and aural versatility are on full display through this wonderful pop EP. I’m glad I found her on the cover of Spotify’s Fresh Finds Pop playlist, which immediately intrigued me to check out her music. She’s certainly a sincere songwriter, who’s here to make a big splash in the music industry!
