Alternative folk band 23 Fields is back with their sophomore album, To Follow This Year’s Fashion. With 13 organic and reflective tracks produced by James McMilan, they span genres and themes that make you feel within.
Opening with “Summer Life,” the album engages with a tapping percussion and long-drawn violin melodies, rivetting with its bends and swells. Whereas Adams’ vocals transport you to idyllic and joyful summer days.
The lead single, “Berlin,” packs a punch in its playful and cheeky instrumentals and raspy vocals, leading the way on a unique trip to Berlin. It’s all about the journey to the destination that the lyrics get intriguing about.
Halfway into the album, “Covered in Glue” gets brooding about mental health issues with shimmering acoustic guitars. Adams shows he is resilient as he sings, “I am braver than you realize.” You can hear the pain in the raspy voice as he sings, “I will keep on climbing out of here, but for now I am staying in bed.” The song culminates with the instrumentals coming together to swell, strum, and move forward with raw textures and beats.
23 Fields tells a healing story about a woman’s “Scars,” with deep and calming piano tones and rustling beats. Closing To Follow This Year’s Fashion is the stirring anthem, “Battle Bonfire Boyes.” It celebrates resilience and community spirit with Adams’ earnest delivery and the soulful vocals of his female counterpart.
In addition to the album’s release, 23 Fields has already booked performances throughout 2024 to give you the best of folk and Americana to audiences across the region. Stay tuned with the band as you keep listening to To Follow This Year’s Fashion.
