Together by Betageist: Review

Kevin Heber’s stunning post-rock project “Betageist” forms an epic melody with ambient guitars and clean synths. Their song “Together”, is an enchanting song with elements of prog and space rock. Betageist’s musical aura is truly mesmerizing to hear, especially how the artist blends ambient effects into the guitar.

“Together” has a lovely cadence where the modern sound of prog arises. This is evident through the song’s transitions and flow. Psychedelic guitars and trance-style synths enter the scene and create a nice progression that anyone would find comfort in. Aside from that, the track has a riveting interlude. Nearly six minutes in, a soothing piano section enters while a baritone voice does a narration, and eventually, the song’s transcendence arrives. This is primarily because, the melody slows down in the interlude, and within seconds after the vocals commence, the tempo skyrockets. It paints the idea of a massive star illuminating a galaxy, along with a hopeful light spreading through the area.

As mentioned earlier, Betageist’s track follows a modern theme of prog rock. It pays homage to giants such as Pink Floyd (especially their recent album) and the ambient persona of Steven Wilson’s solo work. Even though they’re veterans in the original prog genre, Betageist sprinkles that aura and adds their own melodic footprint for a contemporary experience. It is shaped by Together’s blend of serene guitars, light drums, and cinematic synths.
