Hana Piranha has never been the “keep it cute” type. After making noise with Wingspan in 2023, they come back swinging with “Valentine,” a single that’s as addictive as it is unsettling—and the first proper taste of their forthcoming Heart of Darkness EP (due late 2026). The band’s whole thing is authenticity over polish, and you can hear it here: pounding drums, gritty guitars, cinematic synths, and a willingness to stare straight at the messy stuff people usually dress up in prettier words. If romance is a candle, “Valentine” is the moment you realise you’re also playing with gasoline.
The song opens on thumping beats and splashing cymbals that immediately feel like a warning siren disguised as a dance pulse. Then Hana’s vocal drops in, low-range, dark, grave, cutting through the big, bustling rhythm with a calm, almost more intimidating than a scream. It’s breathy in places, but not soft; it’s the breath that carries intention, like someone leaning close to tell you something you shouldn’t want to hear.
As the track unfolds, lush atmospheric synths spread out behind her like fog over a streetlamp, giving everything that dreamlike “nightmare in velvet wrapping” effect. You can feel the story creeping forward, with that electric first meeting where your brain flashes the whole relationship timeline at once, promise, passion, and the inevitable crash, yet you walk in anyway. The writing circles around desire and self-sabotage, the way red flags can look like fireworks when you’re already hooked.
Then the chorus hits, and the trap snaps shut. Gritty, grinding guitars kick the door open, drums thump harder, and Hana’s voice echoes the hook like a spell, “Feel the flame, seal the name, hardened by Valentine.” Behind her, backing vocals wail in a haunting swell, turning the chorus into something between a chant and a warning label. It’s ridiculously catchy, which is exactly the point—this song seduces you while describing seduction.
The whole track plays cinematic: big shadows, sharp angles, moral ambiguity. By the time it ends, “Valentine” lingers like smoke in your clothes. Check it out on Spotify.
