Post Death Soundtrack’s latest offering, Veil Lifter, dedicated to the frontman’s late father, is a ten-track descent into the heart of darkness. Influenced by a potent mix of grunge, hardcore, and doom metal and Eastern philosophies, the album explores distorted mentality and grapple with existential questions and offer a glimmer of hope for spiritual awakening.
Veil Lifter opens with “At The Edge of It All (Intro),” a brief, unsettling soundscape featuring Moore’s voice slowly rising in a haunting, almost anthemic chant. “The Die is Cast” explodes with clear pounding drums, gnarly guitars, and Moore’s hoarse, powerful snarl. The desperation grows amidst the ravages in the repeated plea to “Keep it light,” but it’s quickly drowned out by the crushing weight of reality.
“Arjuna’s Hunting Hand” takes a more ominous turn. Glimmering guitars create a sense of unease before the song erupts with a barrage of blazing riffs. Moore sings with a tense and anthemic edge to his voice, reflecting the internal struggle of the Hindu warrior Arjuna from the Bhagavad Gita, wrestling with doubt and duty. The repeated refrain of “Arjuna’s hunting hand/Shoot to kill at his command” portrays blind obedience in the face of violence.
The album closes with “Hammer Come Down,” a furious scorcher that leaves no room for prisoners. Swirling guitars and the Stephen Moore’s enraged snarl create an atmosphere of righteous anger. The song ends with a sense of apocalyptic finality, with the repeated line “Hammer Come Down” suggesting the shattering of a corrupt system.
