Jakob The Liar’s debut EP Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg kicks down the door with a poet’s soul and a revolutionary’s urgency. Across six tracks, Jakob Kupferberg stitches together existential grief, spiritual awakenings, and political firestorms. This is a man who’s lived many lives, and in these songs, he’s distilled the chaos into clarity.
The title track “Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg” opens like a public service announcement from a dream as crystalline soundscapes wrap around spoken-word urgency, while airport-like echoes in the background hint at a liminal space between departure and awakening.“Sunchild” follows the opener where Jakob hits a rare note of intimate transcendence. When he sings his imperfections down to ask, “so would you marry me for that?”, it lands like a bittersweet punch to the chest. That line alone holds a hundred late-night questions about worth, love, and being seen in your full imperfection.
“A Song Like You” brings warmth and wild devotion, drenched in shimmering guitars and whispered intentions. It’s Jakob at his most optimistic self, in a cinematic climax of bustling drums and blazing sound. The whispered opener, “They are not ready for it,” is a sly self-reference, because truly, most people aren’t ready for a project this emotionally raw and sonically bold.
Wake Up Mr. Kupferberg introduces an artist who refuses to separate the personal from the political, the poetic from the visceral. Stay tuned with Jakob The Liar for his upcoming LP The Great Awakening.
