Wrong Age. Wrong Race. Wrong Gender. by DAMIEN: Album Review
Following up the success of his debut album prominent darkwave artist DAMIEN released his sophomore album on digital platforms on May 27. This seven-track album is a concept album based around the title.
Criticizing the unjust nature of the societal norms and the biases it has over things that are beyond oneโs control such as gender, age, and race but deeply tied to their identity and existence, this album offers solidarity and refuge to those oppressed minorities who feel like they donโt have a voice. The queer artist from Ipswich offers his voice for a more equal society.
Revolving around the theme of gender, sex, identity, raw unfiltered human emotions, and societal issues this album gets heavy with each track not only in its lyrical theme but also sonically. It starts with a track that is most pop-influenced and gradually gets heavier and darker introducing sounds from electronic, nu-metal, industrial rock, and darkwave until it comes full circle again. Through the sound and social commentary of the lyrics, the artist portrays a picture that shows us not only the ugly side of these issues but also an intriguing reflection of ourselves and human nature.ย
