Agneu belongs firmly in the latter camp, a lifelong musician and photographer, approaches songwriting much like he approaches a photograph, observing, circling a subject, adjusting the focus and waiting until the details reveal a story. Air and Twigs, his album of eight songs drawn from lived experience, is the result of that process, with the title track offering a particularly intimate glimpse into this cinematic musical world.
The fourth track from the album, “Air and Twigs,” moves with an understated confidence. A catchy rhythmic pulse and deep bass establish its foundation, while slow, steady drum hits give the song an unhurried sense of motion. The arrangement is melodic and layered, with warm instrumentation filling out the spaces around the bass and percussion. There is a pleasing tension between the earthy weight of the rhythm section and the gentler textures floating above it.
At the centre, Agneu’s husky high voice carries the song with tenderness and sincerity. He sings with a calm, well-paced delivery that feels more contemplative than performative, as though he is quietly turning over a memory rather than announcing it to the world. That introspection fits naturally with his stated approach to songwriting, that these songs are musical vignettes shaped from observation and experience.
“Air and Twigs” captures a mood, leaves room around the subject and lets the listener look closer. Warm, melodic and quietly absorbing, it’s a carefully framed moment that happens to have a pulse.
