Dex Channels’s album “Angels on Dorscher” features 12 tracks that individuals who are lost and trying to overcome obstacles and navigate big cities can relate to. Through mixes of rap, alt hip-hop, and alt R&B, Dex takes the listener on a journey with themes of love, insecurities, and faith.
“Angels on Dorscher” is the title track, kickstarts the album with a harmonious piano opening, where Dex sings about his poor upbringing in his hometown, Dorscher Road, in West Orlando. Dex has a smooth, free-flowing rhythm, where you can hear his raw emotions in each verse he spews.
“Halo” has a smooth opening drum beat that creates euphoria and is like ear candy. The overall track has an almost “futuristic” feel created by the layering of his autotuned vocals. “Halo” is my favorite track of this album, as I was immediately hooked to the sound of the way Dex rapped, “Put your halo the side, you’re just like me.”
“Stuck…Play Me Under” has a unique mesh of contrasting vocals layered on top of each other, while “Licks & Falls” is a track about the sacrifices Dex made only to falter but also pick himself back up and by having faith to “come back strong”. ‘Stardust” closes this album with a relaxing beat reminiscent of gospel. This track highlights Dex’s sacrifices to reach where he is now.
“Angels on Dorcher” is a phenomenal album that captivates the listener with its unique sound and relatable rap verses for lost city souls alike.
