There’s no neat little label that fits Storm Boy, and honestly, that’s the point. Hailing from Olympia’s DIY circuit, the four-piece, Chas Roberts, Jeremy Anderson, Charli Beaumont, and Kuba Bednarek, lean into chaos, collaboration, and that sweat-drenched live energy that turns shows into shared release. Their 2026 full-length Beast Machine Theory (following 2024’s SUPERPOSITION!) captures that spirit in its rawest form, recorded quickly but with intent, like a snapshot of a band mid-surge rather than neatly posed. It’s post-hardcore at its core, sure, but it borrows freely, with punk urgency, alt-rock muscle, and a communal fire that refuses to sit still.
“Hands Under It” wastes no time kicking the door open. Cymbals slice through the mix, guitars rev with a moody edge, and the drums hit with a restless, almost impatient force. Vocals come in tense and soaring, like they’re being pulled out in real time rather than carefully placed. It’s explosive but controlled—barely.
Then “Tiny Fists” doubles down on that intensity. A buzzing guitar line locks into a steady, driving rhythm, while the drums pound forward like they’ve got somewhere urgent to be. The vocal delivery is vehement, almost confrontational, channeling frustration into something that feels active. This track mobilizes.
“From Your Mouth,” though, shifts the emotional center. The guitars drive hard, percussion jitters and you hear two voices coming together, lifting the track into something anthemic. There’s a sense of unity here that cuts through the noise, like the band’s reminding you that connection is just as powerful as chaos.
Across its eight tracks, Beast Machine Theory doesn’t polish away its rough edges, and that’s exactly why it works. It’s about movement, not perfection; about people, not posturing. Storm Boy feel big. And that makes all the difference.
