The Transits, the powerhouse New Zealand–South African trio, return swinging bigger, bolder, and more emotionally charged than anything in their catalogue so far, with Bleed Hope, a 15-track album. Released as their most ambitious statement yet, the record captures a band fully in their stride, balancing widescreen indie drama with vulnerability. Frontmen Ryan Lunn and Dom Antelme trade vocals with urgency and conviction, while Tyrone Smith’s drums keep everything surging forward. At its heart, Bleed Hope is about carrying light through darkness, turning doubt into momentum, and finding power in being exposed rather than protected.
The album kicks off with “Outsiders,” a thumping, high-energy opener that wears its defiance proudly. The beats hit hard and fast as emphatic vocals declare solidarity with the nonconformists, the misfits, the ones who refuse to blend in. It’s a statement of intent right out of the gate, setting the tone for a record that thrives on emotional honesty and communal release. As the album unfolds, melodies shimmer and synths glow before giving way to driving guitars, creating a push-and-pull between fragility and force that defines The Transits’ sound.
That balance comes into sharp focus on the title track, “Bleed Hope.” Built on gritty, fuzzy guitars and pounding drums, the song begins with transparent confession before opening into a soaring, cathartic and unguarded chorus. When Lunn admits, “I bite my tongue till it bleeds / Oh I bleed hope,” she shouts into the void, made even more powerful by the crashing cymbals and relentless rhythm beneath it.
Later, “Never Back Down,” featuring Lacey Lunn, injects the album with grit and resolve. Smug, grinding guitars lock into a steady, electrifying pulse as the lead vocal holds firm in a low, grounded register. Lacey’s lighter, more uplifting delivery lifts the track into anthem territory, especially as he sings, “United we rise, never back down.”
By the time Bleed Hope reaches its final moments, The Transits shows us that they are building something lasting, urgent, and fiercely alive.
