Ren Shelter’s latest single, “Bloody Wine,” wraps heartbreak, obsession, and gendered double standards in a bright, addictive package. As the closing track of his debut EP, Bloody Wine is a slap in the face to society’s skewed take on romantic boundaries. Inspired by the hit TV show Baby Reindeer, the Italian artist flips the script on the usual stalker trope. This time, it’s a man being followed, emotionally entangled, and ultimately dismissed as a joke.
“Bloody Wine” bursts open with shimmering, warm-toned synths and sharp beats that instantly light up your ears. It’s got that indie-pop sparkle with a slightly electronic heartbeat, and honestly, it’s a toe-tapper from the get-go. But beneath the glossy surface lies something darker. Ren’s thick, slightly slurred voice, bursting with emotion, carries tenderness. He confesses his words, bleeding vulnerability into the music.
Ren isn’t afraid to call out how society laughs off female obsession but vilifies it when the roles are reversed. And he does it with flair. The chorus sticks like a thorny rose, catchy and a little painful at the same time. It’s got enough bounce to dance to, but listen close and you’ll realize you’re grooving to someone’s unraveling.
For someone who’s already topped radio charts with “Eternal Sunset” and opened for Italian legends like Ricchi e Poveri and Alfa, Ren Shelter brings “Bloody Wine” to show us that he’s not here to play it safe. He’s here to rattle cages — and sound really good doing it. Listen to it on Spotify.
