Breathe by Nicholas Dante: Review
Brooklyn-based pop artist Nicholas Dante’s hot new single ‘Breathe’ is a captivating multi-layered track that may appear to be a typical dance track at first, but a closer look reveals a depth and complexity that is both refreshing and intriguing.
With the deep resonating bass in the driving seat, the song’s sensual lyricism is reminiscent of past RnB hits from the likes of Timbaland and Missy Elliott. However, Dante’s use of clanky percussion and siren-like synths give the track an edgier and more modern vibe. Dante’s vocals are smooth and confident, perfectly complementing the song’s pulsating beat and the deep rumbling bass. His delivery is at the same time seductive and vulnerable, capturing the conflicting emotions that the song embodies. The production is top-notch, with each element of the track fitting seamlessly together to create a cohesive and dynamic whole.
The most notable theme about the track is its double entendre. On the surface, the song is about new-found sexuality and the thrill of the dancefloor. But putting it under the magnifying glass, it also touches on the theme of anxiety and the struggle to cope with it. This added layer of meaning gives the song depth and emotional resonance.
Overall, “Breathe” is a brilliant EDM-soaked pop tune. The track is brilliantly catchy with a thought-provoking undertone with a sound that is simultaneously classic and cutting-edge. Highly recommended for fans of early 2000s pop and RnB music.
