Kwolek’s latest release, “Cemetery Days” is a synth-punk rock track that fleshes out an idyllic imaginative thought. By turning the idea of two misfit teens finding solace and creativity in the dull death of graveyards reeking, Kwolek shows how human beings can turn boredom into magic.
Released with a blend of artsy synth-pop, grunge and punk influences, this single inundates us with a hazy sonic landscape that is both nostalgic and fresh. From the opening guitar tunes that shimmer and ripple like sunlight on water to the sharp, intrinsic synth lines that pulse with energy, “Cemetery Days” unveils a world of enchanting melodies and percussive thumping. The use of the Casiotone MT-400V adds a layer of vintage dazed charm to the track, that captures the idyllic and insouciant beauty of youth and rebellion.
However, what truly sets “Cemetery Days” apart is Kwolek’s reverbed and soulful vocals. His voice, thick with emotion and expressive in its folk-like aesthetic, weaves through the music with ease, drawing us into the narrative of teenage exploration and self-discovery. The bridge, with its distorted noise buzz juxtaposed against consistent guitar riffing, adds an unexpected twist to the song, keeping us on our toes.
It’s worth noting that Kwolek is a one-man powerhouse, handling everything from writing and singing to playing guitar and synths, programming drums, and even designing the cover art. Recorded, mixed, and mastered in his apartment in Boulder, Colorado, “Cemetery Days” is what I consider the most empowering aspect of Kwolek’s creative vision and dedication to his craft.
With roots in New Jersey and current home in sunny Boulder, Colorado, Kwolek’s music reflects a blend of influences and experiences from both coasts. Listen to “Cemetery Days” to find meaning in the mundane.
