Lyn Lapid’s debut EP The Outsider, an 8-track project released by Republic Records, including the viral single “In My Mind,” which has had over 60 million global streams since its release last year.
The album is released accompanying the music video for the 19-year-old musician’s latest hit, “Pager,” in which she is shown packing her belongings and dismissing off unwelcome advice as she prepares to move on to better things with confidence.
‘If you have an issue with me,’ she sings, ‘you may send it to my pager so I can hear about it later.’ “Tell me what you think of me / I’ll get back to you later / You’ll be doing me a favor / Send it to my pager,” says the narrator. “Your toxicity wasn’t meant for me,” the song declares at the end.
“The EP’s main track, ‘Pager,’ wonderfully reflects that sort of vision I had, and it’s the one tune on the EP where I directly talk about the kind of community I grew up in,” Lapid said in a statement.
“The other tracks on The Outsider all talk about the numerous ways I felt like an outsider growing up and how I learned to cut ties with the toxic individuals in my life and locate the ones who still support me now,” she continues. I hope that everybody who listens to The Outsider understands that there will always be a group of people that accept you for who you are; all you have to do is go out and find them.”
Lapid has built her own creative community on TikTok, where she has a 4.7 million-strong following. “Look at all these individuals who have no knowledge that I’m publishing my debut EP “The Outsider” on all platforms tonight and it’s my first project I’ve ever put out and I’m literally freaking out sobbing passing away from the anxiety,” she wrote in a post ahead of the EP’s release.
