Mad Nad Bo, helmed under Switzerland-based frontwoman Nadine Jordan, explores the budding insecurities and fears that come with a new relationship in her latest single, “Could I, Would I.” Released this March 15, this soulful ballad captivates with its lush orchestral arrangement, husky and rich vocals, and introspective lyricism.
“Could I, Would I” opens with an orchestral arrangement that builds with a waltzy pulse, setting the stage for Nadine’s rich and soulful vocals. With a deepness and thickness in her timbre that can be compared to Adele’s, Nadine sings apprehensively yet passionately, conveying the inner turmoil of conflicting emotions.
As the song progresses, the instrumentation gradually opens up, with tapping beats that rustle alongside glistening cymbals, giving the music more bite and aiding in providing more momentum to the intensity. The instrumentals effectively mirror the internal struggles of the narrator as she grapples with her feelings and uncertainties about pursuing a new romance.
The lyrics of “Could I, Would I” are introspective and raw but also dynamic as Nadine goes from questioning her feelings and desires to feeling sure of them and outgrowing her fears. What began uncertainly with the line, “Think I could love you, but I’m not sure I do,” developed to the passionate lines, “Oh my feelings for you grew, and oh they ain’t just a few.”
If you love blues, soul, and jazz, especially Amy Winehouse, Peggy Lee, and Muddy Waters, then you are in for a treat with Mad Nad Bo’s music. Listen to Nadine Jordan blend the old with the new in her latest release, “Could I, Would I.”
