NYC’s experimental rock ensemble, “The Mortal Prophets”, led by the formidable John Beckmann, have unveiled their highly anticipated sophomore LP, “Dealey Plaza Blues” , One of the standout tracks from the LP is their audacious reinterpretation of the iconic “Down on Me.”
From the very first note, it becomes evident that “The Mortal Prophets” are not content to merely recreate the classic. Instead, they venture into uncharted territory, daring to fuse the raw emotional power of traditional blues with cutting-edge electronic innovation.
“The Mortal Prophets” have taken a bold creative leap with this one, presenting a psychedelic anthem dipped in the colossal soundscape of industrial rock. Their version of “Down on Me” is faster, more catchy, and electrifying, resulting in a unique and off-the-wall rendition that bears little resemblance to the original.
Throughout the track, Beckmann skillfully reanimates these original blues and timeless rock standards. With the collaboration of Joe Filisko, Dylan Day, and Tommy Bohlen and the expertise of co-producer/musician Alexander Krispin, the band breathes new life into the iconic piece, as if it has traversed through time and space, channeling the concept of reincarnation in both a musical and spiritual sense.
With “Down on Me”, “The Mortal Prophets” take audiences on a transformative journey through the corridors of history and the avant-garde. With John Beckmann and his visionary collaborators at the helm, their genre-bending approach cements themselves as true trailblazers, pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a contemporary rock outfit.
