Sydney/Eora dream-pop collective LUCIDBLOOM return with “Dust.”. Merging lush soundscapes and immersive art collaborations, the band takes a slightly sharper turn here, trading some of their haze for clarity while still bathing listeners in their signature atmosphere. The song meditates on the futility of clinging to long-expired love, and the bittersweet liberation that follows when you finally drop the rope.
The track opens with shimmering guitars layered over pulsing, thumping drums, immediately setting up a tension that mirrors the struggle at the song’s core. Then comes the high, delicate voice, almost suspended in the air, carrying hollowness that suggests not numbness, but the echo that follows when something once whole has collapsed. She sings to bury all of the weight, giving us the suffocating imagery that conjures the crushing act of digging yourself deeper by holding on too long, until even the earth seems complicit.
The refrain “All my love is dust” lands like a revelation more than a lament. It’s not self-pity but a stripped-down acknowledgment that what once shimmered has crumbled into particles, scattered and impossible to rebuild. There’s strength hidden in that admission, that comes when you stop pretending and finally let go. The groove-driven bassline underneath gives the track propulsion, as if pushing the listener forward into acceptance.
What makes “Dust” so effective is how it balances the daintiness and resolve. By the end, the song feels less like standing on the other side of the loss, lighter, unburdened, and oddly grateful for the clarity. Listen to it on Spotify.
