Chicago alt-rock veterans Panther Style are back with 90s alternative rock influences, raw energy, and a whole lot of heart on their latest EP, Dynasty. This project has been a long time coming—nearly a decade in the making—showcasing the passion and perseverance of experienced musicians Jeanne McClure, Al Rodis, Dan Lutger, and Melissa Koehl.
The title track kicks things off with a bang. Building and driving riffs, thumping drums, and cymbals sparkling with cold edges create a hypnotic and propulsive soundscape. The vocals are hazy and high, further spicing up the hypnotism.
“Love Removal Machine” is sexy adrenaline. Churning guitar stabs and pounding drums create a frenetic rhythm while the vocalist unleashes a sharp but alluring performance with seductive lyricism.
“Fingers Crossed Here” is a change of pace. A captivating guitar melody floats over a solid beat, creating a bed for the ethereally soft vocals. It’s a beautiful contrast to the raw aggression of the previous tracks, showcasing the band’s dynamic range.
“Seeing…Just Not Believing” closes Dynasty with a bang. Repetitive guitar riffs create a hypnotic loop, while the vocals sing with tense and numbed defiance. It’s a fitting end to this rollercoaster ride of an EP, leaving you breathless and wanting more.
Influenced by The Cult and Jane’s Addiction’s unadulterated rock, Panther Style provokes us to immerse ourselves in intriguing rhythm sections with their latest and most meticulously processed work, Dynasty.
