Cera Gibson’s third single of the year, “Eclipse,” is an exhilaratingly soulful art piece. It enthralls your senses with the passions of an affair’s revisited remnants and gets you in a meditative state with the likeness of a solar eclipse.
“Eclipse” opens with an otherworldly, deep hum that echoes as if performed in a vast, reverberant space like a church or ancient vault, setting a mysterious tone. This haunting backdrop is soon met by Gibson’s acapella entrance, her voice soft yet confident and sure, creating an intimate and entrancing atmosphere for the night to begin. Just then, the ethereal falsetto backing vocals burst in, adding a dreamy, wispy texture that lifts the song to another level.
As the chorus unfolds, the slow, deliberate beats create a careful momentum while the synths surge like light breaking through darkness. Gibson’s voice takes flight with breathy power, soaring effortlessly over the ethereal backing harmonies. The lyrics “Don’t make it serious, it’s just the eclipse” echo the revisiting of the romance. Her voice showcases an impressive range, shifting from smooth, buttery lows to light, airy highs with stunning ease.
Her tender, expressive, and agonizing vibrato in the bridge gives the song a more soulful and raw touch that reflects the desires palpable in the moment. “Eclipse” wraps it up with a powerful climactic ending, leaving you breathless in the high.
The music is mesmerizing, but incomplete without its visual manifestation. The music video is extraordinary and must be checked out. Stay tuned with Cera Gibson for more such tunes.
