1. Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how it all got started?
ALICIA G: What sparked my initial interest into music is, I came from a very musical background my grandfather was a part of a 12-piece orchestra playing the piano and my father supported his way throughout college playing the drums in a band. Between a musical background from my family along with lessons in classical piano along with voice lessons all the way to classical opera lessons inspired my love for music. I am from Buffalo, New York.
2. Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work you are putting into it or are you expecting something more, or different in the future?
ALICIA G: Yes, I do feel my music is giving me back just as much fulfillment as the amount of work I am putting into it. I feel now, more than ever, I feel my career has been taken to a whole new level and the sky is the limit, especially with the help of the label โ I am signed to So Bold Entertainment and Sony Orchard.
3. Who were your first and strongest musical influences and why the name โALICIA G?
ALICIA G: The artists that had a major impact on my sound it would be a mixture of the modern-day Billie Eilish, to a classy Patsy Cline and the fun flirty Shania Twain. Where I got my name from โAlicia Gโ, Alicia is my real first name and the letter G stands for my real last name, Guastaferro.
4. What do you feel are the key elements in your music that should resonate with listeners, and how would you personally describe your sound?
ALICIA G: The key elements in my music that should resonate with my listeners is all my songs come from real life experiences. How I would personally describe my sound is fun, flirty and just all around a party vibe that make you want to get up and dance.
5. Did you have any formal training or are you self-taught?
ALICIA G: I was classically trained in opera from the young age of 11 years old.
6. For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you? How would you describe your own development as an artist and music maker, and the transition towards your own style, which is known as COUNTRY?
ALICIA G: My writing process comes from real life experience a lot of it is based off of my fans and real-life experience.
7. Whatโs your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles โ and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?
ALICIA G: The role my music plays is expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment. From the feel of stepping dance country pop music, personal life experiences threw my music and to entertain people to give people joy and happiness in life.
8. Could you describe your creative processes? How do usually start, and go about shaping ideas into a completed song? Do you usually start with a tune, a beat, or a narrative in your head? And do you collaborate with others in this process?
ALICIA G: The creative process comes from usually life experiences and inspiration from my fans the (AGARMY). I do collaborate with my music producer Joseph โMr. HitMakerโ Lopez.
9. What has been the most difficult thing youโve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
ALICIA G: The most difficult thing I had to endure in your life or in my music career so far has been over coming being bullied so bad growing up in school and on social media. No matter what I had to overcome โ between real life, social media, and in my music career I had to overcome so many different obstacles that came in my way, but no matter what I just keep going and never take no for an answer. I just keep pushing and I never give up!
10. On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far?
ALICIA G: What I would consider a successful proud or significant point in my life or music career so far would be being signing with So Bold Entertainment and Sony Orchard. This has been an incredible experience and I am loving every moment and the guidance and support the label has given to me!
11. With social media having a heavy impact on our lives and the music business in general, how do you handle criticism, haters, and/or naysayers in general? Is it something you pay attention to, or simply ignore?
ALICIA G: How I handle criticism, haters, and/or naysayers in general is simply ignore it. I surround myself with positive people that lift my spirits up and want me to succeed in life. I push out the negativity and push in the positivity knowing the best is yet to come!
12. Creative work in a studio or home environment, or interaction with a live audience? Which of these two options excites you most, and why?
ALICIA G: Both of these options excite me to be honest! I do love the creative work and development in a studio with my music producer Joseph โMr. HitMakerโ Lopez and myself. I also do love the interaction with a live audience. For example, running ideas by my fans the (AGARMY) for feedback on new projects and inspiration.
13. Do you think is it important for fans of your music to understand the real story and message driving each of your songs, or do you think everyone should be free to interpret your songs in their own personal way?
ALICIA G: I feel everyone has the right to interpret music the way they want too, but I do want people to understand the real message and story behind each song so they have the right to choose what they want to believe.
