Henry K has always had a passion for music and playing instruments, and he began writing songs when he was just a young child. Nevertheless, he made the decision to actually begin recording music in 2020. Music got him through a tough time that he was going through. He was born in Brazil, but in 2017 he relocated to Atlanta. Despite not really restricting himself to it, he likes to just do whatever comes to him. His style is primarily alternative rock and pop. He wishes that his music could aid others in the same way that it did for him, brightening even the darkest of days.
The song “Parts of Me” was entirely written, produced, and performed by Henry K. In order to suit their own desires, many people may try to alter you and take things away from you in complicated relationships.
He thinks this is one of his best songs, and he wants to let everyone hear it. Check out the song and the exclusive interview below:
1. Can you tell us a bit about where you come from and how you got started?
HENRY K: I am a Brazilian-born artist, currently based in Atlanta. I have been playing guitar since I was 11 years-old and always had a passion for music. It was in 2020 that music took over me again, and I realized that I wanted to write songs. Being a sucker for guitars, rock music is where I went straight to.
2. Did you have any formal training or are you self-taught?
HENRY K: As I said, I have been playing guitar for quite a while, and when I first started, I did take multiple classes. But from there I mostly watched videos and learned more by myself. I also fully produce all of my songs, and it has been an interesting journey learning about music production and all the process behind it.
3. Who were your first and strongest musical influences and why the name ‘HENRY K’?
HENRY K: My stage name is actually quite simple, it’s my nickname and my last name’s initial. I was mostly influenced by 2000’s pop-rock bands such as “blink-182” and “Linkin Park”, and also by the new wave of pop-punk artists that showed up in the last few years.
5. What’s your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles – and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative and entertainment?
HENRY K:
I definitely appreciate songs that can tackle political issues and express culture behind a genre or a group of people. I think that music like that is so important. However, I usually see my songs as a way to escape from reality. I try to make songs that express who I am, and will help me get through difficult times.
6. Do you feel that your music is giving you back just as much fulfilment as the amount of work you are putting into it, or are you expecting something more, or different in the future?
HENRY K:
Being a small, independent artist, it’s very difficult to see any significant monetary gain from your music. But putting that aside, the amount of happiness making music has brought me, and all the people I was able to meet makes it definitely worth it.
7. What has been the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in your life or music career so far?
HENRY K: Not having a team around me, helping me with the multiple aspects of being an artist is the biggest challenge at me moment for me.
8. On the contrary, what would you consider a successful, proud or significant point in your life or music career so far? HENRY K: The best part of my career is simply showing people my music, seeing them vibe to it and smile. The people who support me are the ones that make all of this worth it.
