1. Your roots can often shape your journey. Can you share a story or moment from your early life that had a significant impact on your path into music?
MAXIIM: Born into a reality where the melodies of the grip resonated, I drew on this darkness to shape a unique light. My early encounter with the piano was more than just a musical discovery; it was an escape, a path to expressing the unspeakable.
2. Did your musical journey begin with formal training, or was it more of a personal exploration? How has that shaped your unique approach to your craft?
MAXIIM:it was my grandmother who introduced me to the piano, then I took a few classical piano lessons, but it was really the discovery of jazz piano, jazz harmonies and improvisation that made me want to make it my profession.
3. Who were some of the most influential figures in your early musical life, and how did they inspire your sound? Also, whatโs the story behind choosing the name โMAXIIMโ?
MAXIIM: I love the sweetness of Patrick Watson and the poetry of Lenoard Cohen.
In terms of sound, James Blake was a big inspiration for my first album.
My French influences are Ben Mazuรฉ and Stromae.
Maxime is my first name and I just wanted to stand out and add a modern, electronic touch by adding an i.
4. What do you believe sets your music apart? How would you describe your sound to someone discovering you for the first time, and what emotions or experiences do you hope to evoke in your listeners?
MAXIIM: I make cinematic pop. My music generates a lot of images for my listeners, and takes them on a journey.
Thereโs also a lot of resilience and always a light in my music. It gives courage and strength to those who are going through a difficult period, while soothing their pain.
What sets me apart is that Iโm a pianist as well as a singer. I think I manage to create something unique by combining my piano and my voice.

5. Music often transcends entertainment. Whatโs your view on the role and function of music as political, cultural, spiritual, and/or social vehicles โ and do you try and affront any of these themes in your work, or are you purely interested in music as an expression of technical artistry, personal narrative, and entertainment?
MAXIIM: I studied jazz piano and harmony at the conservatory. At first I played and studied very complex stuff, but later I wanted to purify my music naturally and keep only the essence, the essential, of it before being as direct as possible.
Vocally, I learned to sing by taking opera singing lessons during my confinement. It did me a lot of good, and I discovered a voice Iโd never suspected beforeโฆ
6. Do you feel the rewards of your musical career match the energy and passion you invest in it, or are there different kinds of fulfillment youโre still seeking?
MAXIIM: i make music because itโs stronger than me, i canโt do anything else. i need to, i like to share, i like to give love to others. To help them, to soothe them, to show them that anything is possible, even when things go wrong, thereโs always a light that will come โฆ
I didnโt choose music for the glory or the rewards, even if I hope theyโll come one day and that theyโll be worthy of the love I have for music and for my fans.
7. Can you walk us through your creative process? From the first spark of an idea to the finished track, whatโs the most essential part of your process, and how do collaboration or external influences shape your work?
MAXIIM: most of my melodies start on the pianoโฆ often at night or in a quiet environment.
When I travel, too, Iโm very inspired.
I like to contemplate landscapes, and I always sit by the window on the train.
8. Whatโs been the most challenging hurdle in either your personal life or music career, and how has it shaped you as an artist?
MAXIIM: I had a very difficult childhood, brought up in darkness where the melodies of the hold resonated.
I was forbidden to exist, constantly put down, and the piano and my creativity were my only haven of peace and my only way of dreaming and escaping from it all.
Despite all this, Iโve always loved life and people. But
it took me a long time to realize and understand that I had the right to live and exist in this world, and that I had talentโฆ
9. On the flip side, what moment or achievement in your career so far has made you feel the proudest, and why? And letโs talk about your latest release and future plans.
MAXIIM: The release of my first album last month is a huge source of pride and achievement for me. Itโs like giving birth!
Iโm already working on the sequel, and Iโve already got a number of tracks that are almost finished.
Iโll also be recording a solo piano album on December 20.
