Northamptonshire’s Deekie is one of those UK Afrobeats names that’s been stacking wins. After a 2024 streaming bump (16,200 Spotify streams across 70 countries, 6,200 listeners) and radio love for “Kilofe” on BBC Radio Northampton’s Introducing Northants, plus extra spins for “Kilofe Remix” on Inspiration FM with an interview, he’s lining up a neat Valentine’s Day double-play: dropping “Falling Through” on February 14 while also popping up as a guest artist at Great Adamz’s “Hearts and Harmony” show. A co-sign from Great Adamz doesn’t hurt either; in this lane, that’s basically a loud nod without the megaphone.
Now, “Falling Through” is more like the after-hours conversation when the music’s low and the truth finally slips out. The beat keeps that Afrobeats bounce in its back pocket, with a catchy rhythm section, clean movement, but the mood leans dusky, with a gentle, slightly moody melody sitting behind everything. Then, Deekie zooms in on that weird heartbreak limbo, when you’re breathing, you’re scrolling, you’re “fine,” but you’re not really living, just sort of… existing. And because the story is pulled from real situations he’s seen around him, the emotions land without feeling over-scripted.
Vocally, he’s got this husky, high, grain that sells the desolation. He starts restrained, almost like he’s holding the words back, then gradually loosens the grip as the narrative deepens. Momentarily, he does get a little sultry, as he beckons a special someone to “come closer.” You can also hear a faint, soulful backing voice that floats in the background. These soft vocalises feel like memory or conscience—take your pick. Either way, the track gets a melancholic, cinematic echo.
By the end, “Falling Through” feels like heartbreak translated into motion, with the head still nodding, heart still heavy, healing happening in real time.
