Firefly by Powers of the Monk: Review

“Firefly” is a chill indie-folk track by magical act Powers of the Monk. Their melodic intrigue arrives from creating soulful rhythms alongside a psychedelic sound. Thus, hearing their track reminded me of an era in music history when the aforementioned genre gained popularity. This took place, particularly in the 1960s-1970s, and is still relevant today.
Powers of the Monk have this ability to transport to a dreamy paradise where their music serves a fitting purpose. Through a jangly guitar and a reverbed vocal segment, we get a glimpse of their melodic trance. In addition to that, the percussion is set at an ideal tempo, so the essence of the track is not lost. There’s a pleasant amount of cadence to the song, and the nature of the piece is what captivated me. From the whimsical narrative to its atmospheric sound, I couldn’t help but mash the repeat button and absorb the track’s aura. Eventually, after multiple listens, I grasped that you can’t have ‘too much’ of this song. There’s no end, just the beginning of a wave you’ll enjoy for a good while, my friends.
If you seek a song that pertains to psychedelic folk, or the indie genre as a whole, then “Firefly” by Powers of the Monk is your go-to track. From the enchanting vocals to its bluesy guitar solo, this number is every piece of melodic wonder you would hope for, and then some!
