For ‘Top Gun: Maverick,’ OneRepublic soars with their carefree new song ‘I Ain’t Worried.’ Watch the soundtrack The song is a sharp contrast to Lady Gaga’s emotive theme song for the film, which she wrote and performed.
The soundtrack for Top Gun: Maverick has just reached new heights. OneRepublic has joined Lady Gaga on the soundtrack for the highly anticipated film and released a breezy new tune called “I Ain’t Worried” on Friday (May 13). The film’s leading man, Tom Cruise, appears in the video, which was directed by Isaac Rentz.
The video alternates between clips of the band performing on an outdoor stage with palm trees at twilight and clips from the upcoming film, which will be released on May 27. As Cruise’s character, Pete Mitchell, plays a game of beach football, OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder sings, “I’ll take it in and let it go, but I ain’t bothered about it right now.”
Top Gun: Maverick is a sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, which follows US navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. With a preview of some of the mid-air action moments shown in OneRepublic’s new video, the sequel will show the character 30 years later, conquering his fears and preparing recruits for an unique flight mission.
Tedder sings over a shot of Maverick lifting off into the sky, soaring above the ocean, “I’m at my best when I’ve got something I want to take.”
The lighthearted music stands in stark contrast to “Hold My Hand,” the film’s melancholy, grief-stricken theme song co-written and sung by Lady Gaga. The 13-time Grammy winner’s song “opened those doors to the emotional core of the film that we had,” Cruise previously told James Corden.
“Her song, which she’d written,” he continued, “simply slid right in and became the underlying soundtrack and heartbeat of our film.”
