John Deering’s latest single, “Groove, Groove, Groove,” is a sun-soaked, retro-tinged ode to carefree youth and musical reinvention. Released on May 9, 2025, the track is a heartfelt throwback to Deering’s early twenties spent at the Jersey Shore—those blurry weekends packed with too many friends in too small a house, and the unforgettable vignettes of freedom that stay with you long after the sand’s been shaken from your shoes.
Built from the basement up, this Minneapolis-based artist channels the spirit of DIY authenticity in a track that shimmers with layered guitars, catchy hooks, and thumping drums courtesy of Peter Anderson. The rhythmic guitar work, influenced by Deering’s long-time love of The Police and specifically Andy Summers, glides over Anderson’s precise drumming with a nostalgic ease. Helping shape the production was Ryan Smith of Soul Asylum fame, whose guidance helped fine-tune the song’s structure and energy.
“Groove, Groove, Groove” kicks off with its title, bold and inviting, before slipping into a laid-back and infectious rhythm. Deering’s vocals are enthusiastic, warm, and laced with a storyteller’s charm, giving the song the vibe of a summer road trip where the windows are always down and every chorus feels like a sing-along. The backing vocals, stacked into smooth harmonic layers, elevate the track into something more than just a groove that becomes a hypnotic experience.
This is Deering’s second single, following years spent away from songwriting as life took over. Now, back in his creative element, he’s proving that it’s never too late to make music that matters—not just to listeners, but to the artist himself.
