Kaleidoscope Collision debuts swinging with “Hiding Place.” It’s the sound of two people stumbling into something real and running with it. Based in Málaga, Spain, the duo, Jovani and Heather, work out of a small attic studio above their home, and that intimacy bleeds straight into the music. You can hear the push and pull of their worlds colliding, with Jovani’s American rock backbone, shaped by bands like Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam, rubbing shoulders with Heather’s instinctive melodic sensibility and lyrical openness. All of that comes off heartfelt, energetic, and refreshingly unpolished in the best way.
“Hiding Place” in habits this classic alt-rock vibe, since kicks off with ringing melodic lines, thumping drums, and fuzzy guitar riffs. There’s momentum from the jump, especially after Heather nudged the track into a faster gear, and that urgency never really lets up. When her high voice comes in, soaring, and full of conviction, it brings both defiance and warmth, like someone standing their ground with a smile. This is a love song, sure, but not the soft-focus kind. It’s about choosing each other even when the world has opinions to tear you apart.
She sings, “Some call it baggage but I call it wisdom / It’s what makes him a man and that’s why I am with him,” flipping judgment into pride. Later, the imagery opens up into something more cinematic and dreamy: “Help me climb, hold my hand and we will fly up in space,” she sings, turning love into an escape hatch from the noise outside. The expansive chorus and the idea of a shared, secret refuge gives the song its emotional anchor and the couple, their unity.
You can feel the excitement and joy of just trusting instinct, chemistry, and feeling. As a first release, “Hiding Place” is honest, loud, and alive, and it sets the tone for Kaleidoscope Collision as a project driven by connection rather than calculation. If this is where their journey starts, there’s plenty of road worth sticking around for. Check it out on Spotify.
