Omer Netzer ushers in the season with “Holiday Blues,” a warm, wistful country-blues single released this November 21, that shines softly against the backdrop of loss, longing, and the fragile hope that love might return with the first snowfall. Co-written with Stephen Hunley and produced by David “Messy” Mescon, the track merges electric-guitar twang, harmonica glow, and classic Christmas sparkle, creating a timeless holiday sound with a distinctly emotional edge. As an Israeli-born artist who has found a new home and new voice in Nashville, Netzer continues to connect cultures and hearts through music, reminding listeners that the holidays hold joy and ache, depending on what—or who—is missing.
Anyway, once “Holiday Blues” begins, the song eases in with shimmery, jingling music that fades in like holiday lights flickering to life. A deep, Santa-like “ho ho” echoes in the background and makes the illusion of hopes and wishes come to life. Then the steady and inviting guitar starts strumming, and Netzer enters with his high, husky, gentle, and soothing voice, yearning and somber. Meanwhile, soft tapping beats keep time beneath him as the melody settles into that sweet spot between comfort and sorrow.
As the verse unfolds, electric guitars melodiously drive, while the percussion keeps jingling softly, anchoring the holiday feel and the wishful pulse in the heart that goes on hoping for another chance. The drums bustle in with an easy momentum. Netzer soars with passion as he leans into the bittersweet longing of a man still hoping love might walk back through the door.
By the chorus, the track brings the understated emotion with warm country, bluesy dulled pain, and just enough festive sparkle to remind us to be there for our lonelier friends.
Listen to “Holiday Blues” to see how missing someone also becomes a part of the season’s story.
