I Have Seen It, I Do Not Fear It by Catherine Elms: Album Review
Much like the name of her album, ‘I Have Seen It, I Do Not Fear It’ by pop singer-songwriter Catherine Elms expresses the wisdom she harbors through the dark, gritty, rock ‘n’ roll debut album.
The first song ‘All I want is everything’ is 1:43 minutes of soulful gothic tune with a stunning introductory piano. With haunting vocals and an irresistible charm, Elms’ vocal techniques shine through in well-arranged harmonies and an overall orchestral experience. The ethereal atmosphere is interrupted by the sharp cry of the electric guitar. A perfect intro, giving a fleeting idea of the tone and energy of the rest of the album.
The raw lyricism draws inspiration from personal experiences and trials and tribulations Elms had to go through. Her words and message shine through, accompanied stunningly by gritty rhythm electric guitar, and equally powerful drumming. Her cinematic sound with the occasional addition of violins heightens the orchestral atmosphere and perfectly expresses her anger, wisdom, and grace all at once.
“Forgive me Father for all I’m about to do, I saw the Devil in the darkness and I swear it looked like you” lyrics with such passion and emotion linger in one’s mind for an understandably long amount of time.
The album is incredibly well organized, showing Elms’ transition and journey of self-discovery and actualization as the final song is titled ‘Apology’ showing her growth from start to finish. Despite being an introvert herself, Elms shows her raw talent as a musician and shows her gift with immensely powerful vocals and connection with the music she creates.
