Canadian singer François Marius becomes the new gunslinger in town with his mic dropping on his electrifying cover of Bob Marley’s legendary “I Shot The Sheriff.” This cover shoots straight into our hearts and wins us over. With mastering by the legendary Simon Gibson (who polished The Beatles, no less!) we would expect no less naturally.
Marius serves up a chaotic fusion of bluesy goodness. Bluesy guitar snare, cymbals clash like electric sparks, and the drums beat on. The brass casually blows and trails its tune in the chaos. But amidst the mayhem, Marius steps up to the mic with a cool, calm, and collected voice. He glides his rap-infused vocals over the euphonious bustling business with an unshakeable rhythm and a voice that’s smooth as silk. Think Bob Marley meets hip-hop with a dash of bluesy swagger.
And let’s not forget the backing vocals echoing soulfully, they are hazily layered amidst the mayhem. They come off like a posse of voices chanting a secret mantra in the background, urging you deeper into the musical adventure.
The music video is like an acid trip to the vintage. Edited with a feverish, hazy color palette, the scenes flicker between Marius rapping from behind a veil of smoke and close-ups of the musicians, each bathed in a different hue. It’s mesmerizing and hypnotic and perfectly complements the energy of the song.
Listen to the reimagined iconic hit, “I Shot The Sheriff” covered by François Marius on all major streaming platforms.
