Talkline, the Essex-and-London-based duo of vocalist Amy Hollingsworth and pianist Will Hobson, return with their second single, โIn My Head,โ a witty yet emotionally tangled indie-jazz-pop number that dives deep into the chaos of overthinking. Following Julyโs โStuck Here,โ the track serves as the next glimpse into their upcoming second EP, recorded at the idyllic Boathouse Studio in Suffolk. Produced by Adam Bowers and featuring collaborators Rory Hudson (double bass), Anmol Mohara (drums), and Harry Mercer (guitar), this song brings humor, introspection, and musical sophistication into something as relatable as saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.
Right off the bat, โIn My Headโ spills open with gliding, watery piano lines that rush forward like a stream of thoughts that wonโt stop flowing. Itโs restless and cascading. Amy comes singing anxiously in deep, breathy continuations, as if she is fretful or embarrassed at her own embarrassment to keep from sinking into it. Itโs charged with that barely-controlled nervous energy you feel when replaying an awkward moment for the hundredth time.
As the track unfolds, the drums crash in with lively, unpredictable bursts, while the double bass grounds the frenzy with a velvety thrum. Just when you think youโve caught your breath, Harry Mercerโs distorted electric guitar solo slashes through the calm, embodying the turmoil at the heart of the song, just like the mindโs spiral when regret takes over.
โIn My Headโ is an anthem for anyone whoโs ever lost sleep over what they said five minutes ago. Listen to it on Spotify.
