In the carefree ‘Sleep Tight’ video, Holly Humberstone floats in a self-driving minivan. Matty Healy of the 1975 co-wrote the new tune.
Holly, fasten your seatbelt! Holly Humberstone’s music video for her charming yet melancholy tune “Sleep Tight” was released on Friday, and it follows her as she drives a cluttered minivan through a sleepy neighborhood.
“I created the song during the first summer after being released from lockdown, which was a chaotic period for my buddies and me.” After such a rough few months, we suddenly had our freedom back, and it felt like we had nothing to lose,” Humberstone tells Rolling Stone as she premieres the song’s video. “I wanted the video to have a cheerful, carefree air to it, and at the end of the day, it should be something fun.”
After working together on her debut EP’s “Please Don’t Leave Just Yet,” Humberstone enlisted none other than the 1975’s Matty Healy to piece together the song’s lyrics.
“I feel like Matty has this wonderful energy that propels us to places sonically and poetically that I’d never get to before,” adds Humberstone. “We usually come up with something unique, which I think is why ‘Sleep Tight’ is one of my favorites. It just sounded so summery and upbeat!”
Humberstone has released a series of singles this year, including “London Is Lonely” and “I Would Die 4 U,” following the release of her EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin last year.
“I write about universal issues that everyone faces and to which everyone may probably identify in some way,” she explains. “I hope listeners understand that I’m just like them; I’m honestly trying to sort everything out, and writing music is just my way of doing so.” I hope I come across as a friend or maybe someone who understands them.
Humberstone’s new music arrives as she prepares to embark on the Sour tour with Olivia Rodrigo, whom she describes as a “big inspiration” in her career. “Her song has so much vulnerability in it that I think it’ll make for a truly amazing live show, and I’ll be weeping my eyes out every night!” she says. “It’s thrilling to be taking my songs to areas I never imagined I’d be able to visit, and I consider myself quite fortunate!”
