Jazzygold’s debut EP, it’s been a while, is a bold, unapologetic statement. Out since February 14th via Tutl Records, this six-track project is drenched in raw emotion, self-reflection, and a fearless exploration of identity. With a blend of R&B, soul-pop, and strikingly candid lyricism, Faroese sensation Jazzygold (aka Jasmin Mote) crafts a deeply personal yet universally relatable experience.
From the very start, it’s been a while pulls you into Jazzygold’s mind, setting the tone with ‘welcome to my head.’ This pulsating, unpredictable opener features shimmering music and deep bass, layered under her rich, expressive vocals. She sings about the all-too-familiar feeling of watching others succeed while battling her own self-doubt—an honest, introspective start to the journey.
Then there’s ‘ex-friends,’ a powerhouse anthem packed with attitude and orchestral suspense. As the buzzing instrumentals intensify, her soaring, layered vocals deliver a defiant, almost smug takedown of fake friendships. “Wanted them to pick me / guess they were too scared,” she belts, flipping betrayal into an empowering moment of self-acceptance. By the end, she’s moved on, giving a heartfelt nod to the real friends who stuck around.
The EP closes with ‘Gold,’ shimmering as it opens just like its title suggests. The hard-hitting beat drives home a triumphant message, she’s proving everyone wrong, thriving even though she’s just getting started. The song pulses with confidence, turning doubt into fuel for success.
Jazzygold tells stories, weaving her experiences into melodies that resonate. As a woman of color from the Faroe Islands, she’s breaking barriers, carving out space for voices like hers in an industry where representation has been scarce. Check out It’s been a while on Spotify.
