Do you love Jazz and often get the Blues? Well, here’s something that will rein your attention and your moods for seasons to come. Brooklyn-based, Russian-born drummer Tima Volozh has brought instrumental enigma with his debut album, Jubilee. Released last Dec 1, 2023, the album dynamically enthuses each instrument
Tima Volozh opens his debut album, Jubilee, with a rendition of an acclaimed piece, “Adoration of the Earth,” originally by Igor Stravinsky. The drums rumble with a heavy magnifying force while Noah Franche-Nolan’s piano ripples underneath. Timo Vollbrecht rhythmically drives his tenor saxophone with its relaxing ascension.
Coming next is “Vortex” with its wistful melody and its trailing sax tune which gets enhanced with the suspenseful drums. A stand-out track is “Aisha” for its heavy undertones. The archtop bass guitar played by Jerome Harris drives and revs beneath the saxophone swelling and the piano pours its musical tunes alongside in a rhythmic manner. This cover of McCoy Tyner’s ballad “Aisha” also has an enigmatic bass solo, bringing even more dynamism to “Aisha”’s storytelling ambiance.
The seventh track, “Evidence,” culminates Jubilee with a bluesy brood and build-up of saxophone. The relaxing piano keys stay lax until you hear them dancing around just to come front and center. “Evidence” gives Jubilee its lasting meditative effect that engages, immerses, and makes you rewind.
