Lany ft. Marc Bentel by Romain Gutsy: Review
“Lany” is a folk-jazz track with a groovy singer capturing its essence. Romain Gutsy’s raspy voice blends excellently with the funky drum patterns and deep basslines. Altogether, it blends with smooth keyboard pieces to create a lovely vibe that keeps you hooked throughout the piece.
Romain’s vintage musical persona is such a nostalgia hit. He makes each verse in “Lany” sound like a scene straight out of the 1950s, primarily due to its heavy jazz influence. At a time when the genre peaked, it feels comforting to hear that inspiration come alive in each section of Romain’s tune. This is especially true when the time signatures and vocal style are put forth in this number. It distinguishes itself from the norms of folk music and rather infuses jazz to form folk-jazz. The result folks? Pretty captivating I gotta say. Aside from that, further rhythmic facets arrive from soft guitar chords and a deep bass section. It connects with the beautifully crafted organ-style keys to generate a catchy aura. Furthermore, Chandra Bentel’s calming backing vocals were a pleasant addition. In addition, Marc Bentel oversaw the mixing, mastering, production, and arrangement, and Romain contributed to the last two aspects.
Here’s a short glimpse into the heartfelt lyrics of “Lany” –
“In my prophecy
Was not written I would meet you
Nor that you’d fall on me
In my destiny
Was not meant that an angel
Come down to put a spell on me”
