Last of My Kind by Love to Bleed, produced by Mauro Martins de Oliveira, is a captivating album that delves into a broad spectrum of complex topics. Through the album, the artist proves he is dutiful as a conscious and conscientious global citizen. Showcasing vulnerability in the face of conflicts, Last of My Kind navigates through the human experience, touching on the consequences of damage and destruction.
The opening track, โQuetzalcoatl Meets the Sea,โ is a grandiose journey beginning with epic cinematic orchestral elements. The dramatic instrumentals fade to jangly percussion dancing upbeat over electric guitar churning and revving. The anthemically sung vocals create a dynamic evolution. Itโs a perfect beginning to an evocative album.
I particularly found โOpenโ intriguing. In this track, Love to Bleed explores another one of his powerfully uneasy ambiance with shimmering guitars and low vocals. I loved the way the music was built to graduate to a hazy, chaotic, and eerie atmosphere.
The last track, โWinds,โ begins with a poignant female note and the cry of eagles, setting the stage for a somber immersion. The ambiance gets melancholic with vocals rich with vibrato, singing about war, war crimes, destruction, and murder, creating a powerful and emotional conclusion to the album.
Mauro Martins de Oliveira proves the power of his activism once again through Last of My Kind. From composing for Clintonโs Inaugural to his involvement in Native American social justice issues, Oliveiraโs diverse experiences shine through in the music. Oliveiraโs activism extends beyond the music, making him a true agent of change.
