Written for this year’s Eurovision season and currently in the San Marino Song Contest orbit, GINAxC’s “Liar on Fire” comes in swinging with a darker kind of electropop ambition. This zeroes in on the struggle before the breakthrough—the point where resistance stiffens, control starts slipping from the oppressor’s hands, and power is taken back inch by inch. That gives the song a sharper edge than your average dance-pop statement. It is fierce, sexy, and confrontational, sure, but it is also tightly wound, choosing tension over release and discipline over melodrama. In other words, it knows exactly what game it is playing.
From the off, “Liar on Fire” locks into hard-hitting beats and a shimmery electronic backdrop that feels slick without going soft. The production pulses with purpose, always moving, always pressing forward, like it is stalking its target. Over that, GINAxC delivers a vocal that is all contrast and control. Her voice is high, soft, and gossamer-light, but she uses that delicacy like a weapon. She sings slowly and sultrily through the verses, letting each line land with cool disdain, then lifts into a catchier, soaring chorus that clicks right into the beat and instantly sticks.
Lyrically, the song plays with gendered power, historical repetition, and self-possession without losing its pop bite. She sings, “Sit still and be quiet / Don’t you speak a word” and “I’m so much more than that” frame the song’s central fight, while the hook, “He was a la-la-la-la-la-la-la-liar / So I set him on fa-fa-fa-fa-fa-fire” comes like stage-ready venom.
By the end, “Liar on Fire” feels built for a competitive spotlight.
