“Lift Me Up” by Rihanna sets the emotional tone for “Wakanda Forever”
Rihanna has released her first solo album in six years, and it tugs at the heartstrings.
Friday saw the release of “Lift Me Up” from the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” soundtrack. The song is already a hit with Rihanna’s Navy, her devoted fan base.
On Wednesday, the singer teased the release of the song. Twitter reports that within an hour of her posting the 14-second teaser, it generated more than 70,000 tweets.
Rihanna begins the new song by humming the melody before launching into the emotional lyrics.
She sings, “Lift me up/Hold me down/Keep me close/Safe and sound.” “Burning in a hopeless dream/Hold me when you go to sleep/Keep me in the warmth of your love when you depart/Keep me safe.”
On Friday, Rihanna also released a moving music video for the song, which features scenes from the film.
As a tribute to the late “Black Panther” actor Chadwick Boseman, Rihanna, Tems, Oscar winner Ludwig Goransson, and “Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler composed the song.
Boseman passed away at the age of 43 in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer.
There are already numerous responses to the song on social media, including a tweet predicting that it will win an Oscar: “just finished listening to rihanna’s future Oscar-winning song lift me up.”
The soundtrack album “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By” will be released on November 4, followed by the release of the film a week later.
