Outside Is Void (OIV), the solo studio project by Thomas Marcus, captivates with his compelling 11-track album, Light Gazer. The album’s melody might suit fans of Depeche Mode, New Order, Curve, and My Bloody Valentine. With years of recording and refinement behind Marcus’s proficiency, he successfully establishes his atmospheric and emotive energy with Light Gazer.
The opening track, interestingly titled “Track,” spurs up pulsating, spacey, and moody instrumentals. Marcus’s youthful and charismatic vocals sung slowly have a contemplative tone and create a breathable pop experience. The artist tries to convey growth and his existence becomes more conscious as he grows.
“Petals” has a roomy textured haze that builds up to catchy yet calm melodies. Tara Louise sings in unison with Marcus and brings a sonorous vibe to the chorus with a sense of harmony. The song also sounds cinematic when intriguing sound effects are offered to produce a shimmering and sharp musical experience.
Closing the album with “Far,” Marcus approaches the song broodingly. The synth lines slowly immerse the listener, and distorted guitars add a buzzing and reverberating jitteriness. He connects the music to the concept of time passing by and leaving mixed feelings within us, ensuring the perspective is complemented by the dazed musical backdrop.
Light Gazer feature a seamless integration of synths, guitars, and vocals, creating a cohesive and engaging listening experience. OIV, with this collection of intriguing music, invokes different reactions within us as it evokes various emotions in every aspect of our lives with electronic pop music sending an orchestrally rich and diverse sound palette.
