Luma Fade, the moniker of solo artist Benjamin Forrest Dalton, has released their debut album, Lunar Decay. Dalton is the mastermind behind the album. They got behind all the writing, recording, and production and brought it to fruition.
The album begins with “Passion Fall,” a dreamy and electrifying track that carries a shimmering synth, reminiscent of electric guitar riffs. The music is combined with catchy electronic music basking in propulsive energy. Completing the music, the hazy and reverbed vocals add the right amount of mystery.
Luma Fade is known to produce fully electronic songs while emulating the sounds of electric instruments like electric guitars. They curate their synth-based sounds inspired by Depeche Mode, New Order, and Pet Shop Boys among others. They mix that with post-punk goth music like The Cure, and Joy Division, which they have been listening to since their adolescence.
Lunar Decay has an intriguing sci-fi plot with Earth being subjected to a lunar catastrophe and how man remained resilient and endured throughout their grievances. The different tracks all refer to various seasons in their titles, too. We have the third track, “Spring Sobriety,” keeping up an upbeat melody. Meanwhile, the sixth track, “Dimmer Summer,” is atmospherically grinds and melodically gritty.
The last track, “Winter Warming” stands out with its dark and slow electric guitar emulation. Its intriguing, atmospheric sound effects and textures wrap the music up with its mesmerizing cool.
