If heartbreak had a heartbeat, it would sound like “Middle of the Night” by The Transits. From the first ripple of synths and hard-hitting drums, this track haunts. The moment the husky, high-tone vocals drift in, wrapped in electric reverb like a ghost in a thunderstorm, you know you’re in for an emotional ride that hits hard.
“Middle of the Night” is cinematic, magnetic, and vulnerable in all the right ways. It sounds like driving through a neon-lit city with tears you won’t admit are there, or lying wide awake next to someone who feels galaxies away. The chorus is total earworm. It sticks, it aches, it moves. You feel it right in that hollow part of your chest reserved for what-ifs and late-night spirals.
The Transits blend punk soul with indie shimmer, and here they lean into their most tender, introspective territory yet without losing that anthemic edge. There’s tension in every note, like watching a lightning storm from the safety of your room. And yet, there’s a rawness too. Lyrics about love unraveling and climbing emotional hurricanes sting, especially if you’ve ever had your own 2AM existential couple’s therapy in total silence.
What makes it even cooler is that these guys are making music from opposite ends of the world—Auckland and Durban—but it all comes together so seamlessly, you’d think they were jamming in the same garage.
If you’ve ever had love keep you awake and questioning in the quiet dark, The Transits just wrote your anthem. Check it out on Spotify.
