‘Monica Lewinsky’ is Upsahl’s latest single. The bold single is accompanied by a controversial music video created by George Gallardo Katta.
UPSAHL, a rebellious pop trailblazer, has released her new single “Monica Lewinsky” via Arista today. The bold single is accompanied by a controversial music video.
“On first hearing, Monica Lewinsky feels like a lighthearted song about people who have made a tremendous impact on pop culture, and it is that type of song,” UPSAHL said of her new single. “However, writing this song was much more than that for me.”
In the 1990s and early 2000s, women like Monica, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Miley Cyrus were all brought down by the media and the court of public opinion for simply living their lives. Because of the nonsense they had to deal with early in their careers, one of the key reasons I get to feel free working in the creative profession. My tribute to them is ‘Monica Lewinsky.’ Thank you for contributing to history.”
UPSAHL dodges frantic paparazzi and navigates the caveats that come with burgeoning popularity in the “Monica Lewinsky” music video, directed by George Gallardo Kattah. Instead of avoiding the spotlight, the artist revels in it, showcasing her bold red carpet attire and billboard commercials. With a long history of female musicians being misrepresented in the media, this video gives a strong message that UPSAHL isn’t afraid to be herself in the face of it all.
UPSAHL made her late-night television debut on CBS’s The Late Late Show with James Corden, performing “IDFWFEELINGS,” and on TBS’s Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, performing “Lunatic.”
UPSAHL will embark on her first North American Headline Tour this fall, following her exciting European tour backing Fletcher. It begins on September 29 at Constellation Room in Santa Ana, California, and continues through key markets throughout the country until October 22 at The Roxy in Los Angeles, California. UPSAHL released her debut album, ‘Lady Jesus,’ in the fall of 2021, to critical acclaim from Consequence, SPIN, Nylon, Alt Press, and others, and was named one of People Magazine’s “Talented Emerging Artists Making Their Mark in 2022.” UPSAHL’s “excellent” (Alt Press) storytelling is showcased in this expansive compilation of bouncy alt-pop tracks that radiate don’t f*** with me intensity.
UPSAHL has carved himself a position in the songwriting industry in just a few short years, writing songs for Dua Lipa’s GRAMMY Award-winning “Good in Bed,” Madison Beer’s furious single “BOYs,” and “Happy Endings” with Mike Shinoda and iann dior, which reached the Top 10 at Alt Radio.
UPSAHL teamed with Anne-Marie and Little Mix on the UK Top 10 track “Kiss My (Uh Oh).” UPSAHL also recorded Dominic Fike’s “3 Nights” for Amazon’s coveted Original series, which is only available on Amazon Music. UPSAHL recently collaborated with GAYLE on her tune “e-z.”
