“Music Is My Lifeline” by Lemon is a vibrant jolt of nostalgia-meets-now, bringing that signature Nedchester sound—the Amsterdam-born lovechild of Madchester’s psychedelic groove and modern indie spark—to life with cheeky swagger and irresistible rhythm. Released as the fifth entry in their ambitious #lemon12 project.
The track kicks off with a deliciously raw, rumbling, tapping, organic drum groove, and soon the guitars enter, fuzzed out and gritty, instantly conjuring images of sweat-slicked clubs and warehouse parties. Then comes the voice: airy and low-ranged but full of presence, slipping into the mix with a calm coolness. As the chorus unfolds, the backing vocals join in like a joyous, alive, and effortless group of mates at the back of the bar singing along. The band vibe with an infectious energy that makes the whole thing work.
But it’s on the bridge where the magic really happens. Yasmina van Gurp rides the refrain with a mix of bemusement and sincerity, backed by a soaring, almost smugly satisfying guitar solo that feels straight out of a Britpop fever dream. You can practically see the hair flips and closed-eye head nods. As the song builds toward its final stretch, it lets loose—sparkly, bright, euphoric. The percussion shakes, the melody surges, and the vocals lift with gleeful abandon. It’s a song about celebration of music itself as the antidote to all our digital distractions.
