My Someone by Presley Duyck: Review
Presley Duyck is undoubtedly a talented artist as she has made us go through many complex states of human emotions through her music. From an uneasy emotion in “Happy 22!”, to an emotional boost in “Cold Together” and now, the combination of all: “My Someone” – her newest single.
“My Someone” comes with a unique vibe, a breath of modern indie music alongside a classic pop theme which caught my attention the very first time listening to it. The song is a mix of complicated emotions of a wife whose husband went out to war despite her disagreement. Written from that perspective, it is the hopes and longings of the wife to have her husband come home safe from war soon resonating with those who happen to be in the same situation with their loved ones serving in a warzone.
At the beginning, Presley’s sincere and heartfelt vocals beautifully capture the emotions of longing. This expression is further amplified by her hanging falsetto notes. The song quickly picks up the pace as the yearning grows. Wanting to receive a letter with little hearts by the name or even better, a calligraphy so that she can hang it on the wall is such an intimately beautiful touch to the lyrics that highlight her songwriting skills. The song’s bright acoustic guitar paired with the fast percussion and Presley’s dreamy vocals and falsetto perfectly complements the lyrical theme of reminiscing the times of loving and being loved, longing and praying that their beloved would be back home safe again with them no matter how long it takes.
